FTMO Review (2026) – Is It the Best Prop Trading Firm?
Introduction
FTMO is one of the most recognized names in the prop trading industry. Known for its structured evaluation process and strong reputation, it is often considered the benchmark for funded trading programs.
But is FTMO really the best prop trading firm in 2026?
This review breaks down FTMO’s rules, pricing, pros and cons, and whether it’s the right choice for your trading style.
What Is FTMO?
FTMO is a proprietary trading firm that provides traders with access to funded trading accounts after passing a two-step evaluation process.
Traders who succeed can access accounts up to large capital sizes and earn up to 90% of the profits.
FTMO focuses heavily on discipline, risk management, and consistency.
How FTMO Works
The FTMO process is structured in three stages.
First, traders complete the FTMO Challenge, where they must reach a profit target while respecting drawdown limits.
Second, they move to the Verification phase, which confirms consistency.
Finally, traders receive a funded account and can begin earning profits.
Key FTMO Rules
Understanding FTMO’s rules is critical before starting.
Maximum daily loss limits restrict how much you can lose in a single day.
Maximum overall drawdown defines the total loss allowed on the account.
Profit targets must be achieved within the challenge phases.
Minimum trading days ensure traders are not taking excessive risk in a short time.
These rules are strict but designed to enforce disciplined trading.
FTMO Pricing
FTMO operates on a challenge fee model.
Traders pay a fee based on account size. If they pass both phases, the fee is typically refunded with the first payout.
Compared to other firms, FTMO is not the cheapest, but it is considered one of the most reliable.
Profit Split and Scaling
FTMO offers up to a 90% profit split for funded traders.
It also includes a scaling plan, allowing traders to increase their account size over time if they maintain consistent performance.
This makes it attractive for long-term traders.
Platforms and Markets
FTMO supports popular platforms such as MT4 and MT5.
Traders can access forex, indices, commodities, and other major markets.
Execution conditions are generally stable and suitable for most strategies.
FTMO Pros
FTMO has one of the strongest reputations in the industry.
Payouts are reliable and consistent.
The structure encourages disciplined trading.
Scaling opportunities allow long-term growth.
FTMO Cons
The evaluation process is strict and can be difficult for beginners.
Drawdown rules can limit aggressive strategies.
There is less flexibility compared to newer prop firms.
Is FTMO Good for Beginners?
FTMO can be challenging for beginners due to its strict rules.
However, it is an excellent environment for traders who are serious about developing discipline and consistency.
Beginners may need preparation and structured training before attempting the challenge.
How to Pass FTMO
To succeed with FTMO, traders must focus on:
Risk management over profit chasing
Consistency rather than aggressive trading
Following rules strictly
Avoiding emotional decisions
Using structured analysis and planning is key.
